Friday 1 August 2014

Welcome Meggymay as a Guest today and the new winners.

Hello everyone, it’s a Winner’s Friday again and we have a fabulous project from our winner of the ‘Wings and Things’ challenge and a list of who the winner and pinworthy mentions are for Annie’s ‘Dies and Distress’ challenge.
So to start us off it’s over to you Yvonne.

Yvonne_Meggymay
Hi, I'm Yvonne, known to many folk in Blogland as Meggymay. I have been happily retired for a few years now and have time to enjoy my passion for crafting and during the summer months getting away in our caravan. Packing the stash in a limited space in a caravan is always a priority for me.
I love to try out new techniques, ideas and styles, but have to admit that Vintage and Shabby Chic are my favourites. Tim Holtz's books and products, especially the distress inks are constantly in use on my work bench.

I was thrilled to be asked to be a Guest Designer for you at AVJ and when I read that the theme was, 'Just Stain It', well what can I say, getting inky and messy is one of the joys of crafting.

I decided to make a hanging for this theme, using a piece of recycled
corrugated card as a base, adding some pieces of embossed card to add texture.
Next up came the frame. Both base and frame were  embossed  using small
areas of Tim Holtz's and other stencils using grunge paste. When it
was all dry a coating of cream acrylics, then the Distress Staining fun could begin.
First of all  I splodged and swept over the surfaces with the
stains, no method just random. Distress Stains used were mainly Broken China, Vintage Photo and Antiqued Bronze.
I did use some crackle paint on the frame at this stage, but it nearly all disappeared. So I added more texture using  the stencil and lightly stained [Broken China] grunge paste to the frame.
Then to fill in the spaces, I dabbed stain onto my craft mat, sprayed with water and swept the pieces over.  I  then sprayed  them directly with water and magically every colour seemed to blend together. Nothing can beat giving this stage a helping hand to get in the nooks and crannies,  with a paper towel or as in my case the fingers.
I gathered together some  of  the detail pieces I wanted to add, including the Found Relative photo card.
After assembling the hanging it did need highlighting in parts with a little gilding wax.

I wonder who holds the key to this relatives heart?

I did so enjoy this theme and thank the Creative Guides for inviting me to be their Guest. The inspiring projects and products that Tim Holtz brings to us make my personal crafting journey so enjoyable.
There are more photos, showing the stages it took to complete this
hanging on my blog. http://meggysway.blogspot.co.uk

.........................................................................

Thank you Yvonne, this is such a sweet hanging, beautifully vintaged and gloriously textured. Now you have got me thinking as to who indeed might be holding the key to this lady's heart. I feel a sequel coming on ……

3. Make sure you have linked directly to A Vintage Journey from your post.
The full guidelines are in the sidebar for you to read at your leisure.
We appreciate all your entries and thank you for taking the time to hop aboard and share part of the journey with us.

  2. Yvonne, you've done it again! Love this beautifully framed photo with all that wonderfully stencilled texture and stained colour (we both must have some of the muckiest fingers out there as they are my main tool too!) and I love how your feather/flower flourishes help to highlight that fantastic hat.
