Winner, Pinworthies and Guest Day

Hello fellow travellers!  Thanks so much to everyone who joined in my Things with Wings challenge, we had so many fantastic entries.  Before we announce our Winner and Pinworthies we have some wonderful inspiration to share with you from the winner from our June Celebrations challenge - Hilde of Tindaloo.  Hilde has created a beautiful project based on our current challenge theme of 'Home Sweet Home'.

Hello and thank you for inviting me to share a part of my Vintage Journey with you all! ♥ I am a 39 year old crafter living in Norway, north of the artic circle. My name is Hilde but I'm mostly known online as Tindaloo.

Home for me is the arcipelago of islands that is Vesterålen. And also close to my heart, our neighbouring archipelago, the Lofoten islands. It is a beautiful place, surrounded by mountains, woods, lakes and the wide open sea ~ a breathtaking work of art that I look out at every day!

Besides loving spicy food (the origin of my nickname) I am a bit of a nerdy fangirl of basically anything in the Whedonverse & Supernatural.. I love playing videogames, reading, and I got the closet full of Doctor Who t-shirts ♥ Mention sci-fi or fantasy and I could go on and on .. but I won't, promise!...

I love to take photographs and to travel ~ as much as my health allows for. I got chronic back pains, fibromyalgia, PCOS and Migraines to name a few of my ails, so sometimes I feel more like I'm 90! ;) However, when my energy is low, or my hands won't work ~ my love of Arts & Crafts helps, and just being a part of and being inspired by the wonderful online crafting community ♥ I am a proud member of the DT at Creative Fingers, some of you might have seen my creations there or on my blog.

Tim and Dyan are on the top of my youtube watch list, they and other amazing artists have been a huge source of inspiration, and I can safely say, I am a distress addict *LOL* Tim's Distress Inks and tools has been a constant companion for many years, and none of my creations feels complete without them ♥ If I had a choice, every project I do would be in brown hues and look vintage with a touch of steampunk. But more often than not I have to do pinks and pastels. So I am happy to get to do something themed HOME for this project, and it is all about Vintage & Mixed Media & I wanted to make something artsy for my Dad, who sadly got altzheimers and passed away some years ago ♥ ♥ ♥

First I started out with making a little sketch with my idea of how I wanted it to look. Then I took a pencil and a ruler and cut out a whimsical house and a frame with my scalpel and self-healing cutting mat.

I gathered some stuff from my stash and a designer paper I thought would look good. (Not everything ended up on the finished project, but I got an idea of what I wanted). A good tip is to take a photo of your layout when you are satisfied, so that you can remember it all, especially if you - like me - have a bad short time memory!

This is a re-purposed a wooden-block-painting that I got very cheap, I'm always on the lookout for a bargain ;) I used one of the heart diecuts to outline a heart on my house. And with that one cut and all the diecuts done through my BigShot machine, I began the fun part: Inking! LOVE getting messy! *LOL*

I stenciled some modelling paste through a script stencil, and sprayed through a steampunk gears stencil. I used another diecut as a mask for my negative inky splatter heart, and you can see the inks I used in my list of 'ingredients' below :)

Then I did some crackling on my house roof, some Distress Embossing on some diecuts, and a very cool technique on some called 'Drunken Scotch' which I learned on youtube some years back, and I have found the link so you can learn it too!

A Tutorial by Tim on DI embossing powders.

Distress embossing powder & Drunken Scotch Technique

After the wooden block was painted black (my fingers did the structure u see) gesso'ed, and rub n buffed with some bronze metallic (which I used on many items to make them look more steampunked!) ~ I then stamped & embossed my frame. The TH emb. powders feels like sandpaper, and after you heat emboss it, you should wait for it to cool down properly, I was too impatient and had to re-do a whole section as the powder just is swept off if not cool enough, should've see the Tim tutorial again ;) I sanded/distressed & inked up around the edges of everything, and finally assembled my mixed media artwork with extra strong adhesives.

My little house has gotten some bricks from another stencil ~ which is very fitting as my dad had his own firm as a master bricklayer :) ... Now, for the reveal of my finished project ~ I'm sure my dad would have loved it ♥

..It's every bit as crowded with stuff as his tool shed was! *LOL*

Again, thanks so much for having me as a guest, it was fun to challenge myself to try & do something special, other than my usual cards :)

Thank you so much Hilde, for creating this beautifully vintage project using some wonderful Tim techniques.  I am sure your Dad would have loved this beautiful piece of home decor.

Today we are also pleased to announce the randomly chosen Winner who will receive our Sponsor's prize and also our three Pinworthies, selected by our Creative Guides.

First up is our winner from the August challenge - Things with Wings.

#15 Rachel from Fisher's Cards

Congratulations to Rachel, we loved seeing how you used the fabulous Bird Crazy stamps.  We hope you will be a guest with us at AVJ and your voucher and winner's badge will be sent to you.

It was difficult again for our Creative Guides to choose our Pinworthies as there were so many wonderful Tim inspired creations, but we had to choose three and our choices, in no particular order are:

Ann's gorgeous painty background using Distress Paint, topped with different embossing methods, creating a stunning effect and she won us all over with her wonderful use of Tim's techniques.

#44 Suzz

Suzz created the most beautiful opulent purple and golden garden for her stunning dragonfly to rest upon.  The way the light catches the gold is superb.

#38 Amanda
Amanda's canvas is full of Tim goodness, the triple embossed and stamped heart is fantastic and she has made wonderful use of one of Tim's older dies.

Well done to all of you - your blog badges and invitations will be on their way to you soon!

We do hope you will join in our current challenge Home Sweet Home and we would love to see you visit here again next Monday for our next Destination Inspiration post.
