Destination Inspiration - Terminal 2

Hi everyone and welcome to the second stop along our February journey. Nikki here to share a project based on this month's contents of our travel bag:
Product - Kraft Card
Colour - Fired Brick (or dark red)
Technique - Stenciling
Substrate -Burlap
I was a little short of ideas and for this and when I went to start realised I was also out of burlap! Not a great start.... but I found some already used mini burlap panels so decided to work over them - here is what I ended up with.
Having removed what I could off the used panels I added some gesso to cover previously painted areas. The great thing about recycling projects is you get all the additional texture from the original design.  Once the gesso was dry I added some Fired Brick Distress paint. I then stencilled buff paint over the surface through a circles stencil.

I took some Kraft card and painted some swirling circles and fussy cut them to adhere to my burlap panels. I added black gesso around the edges of circles and the panels.
I wasn't sure about showing this - but it is growing on me!

  1. I for one am really glad you shared it - I haven't found this destination very easy either! I love the soft red you've created in those wonderful swirls (reminds me of seaside rock!), and the hanging triptych works really well.
