Latest Guest and newest winners

  HAPPY NEW YEAR

Here we are in 2015 and AVJ is now 10 months old, it’s amazing where the weeks go but I just love seeing all your wonderful entries to our challenges, reading your comments and spending time looking at the guest posts. Today is no exception, but unfortunately we have a glitch to start off the new year. We have a wonderful winner guest from a blog called Lerusho but her bio and text to her wonderful project photos wouldn’t download on my computer, but hey what did I find on her blog but a bio and todays project posted a wee bit early, so I have managed to patch it altogether. Welcome Ruth it is a great pleasure to have you here at AVJ as a guest designer.

Ruth Lerusho

Short bio: I was born as a cute little baby, attended schools, graduated as a fashion designer, roamed the world looking for things that doesn’t exist. Boom, I grew up. I realized that real inspiration I need to search in myself, and it’s more important to enjoy my life than to consider what others think about my style. So I attended the academy again and got my second diploma from graphic design. I love creating mixed media pieces, art journaling, cards, tags and lay-outs. My home is not a geographical point on the map, but where my son and husband are.

This is Ruth’s gorgeous project to fit in with our ‘Ring out the old, Ring in the new’ challenge.

My canvas is 6×6 and I worked on the backside of it. First I applied a layer of tissue papers to get some texture. At the middle I used Tim’s Postale tissue wrap, while on the frame I used white tissue wrap. I covered the tissue layer with a thin layer of picket fence distress paint.
bells1w
After it dried I coloured the middle with blue jeans distress stain spray.
bells2w
I cut a fir tree from chipboard and cut a circle in the middle. I hanged there a little bell to ring. I painted my fir tree with picket fence distress paint.
bells3w
In the meanwhile I layer of frosted film on the middle part of my canvas to get an icy look and distressed the white edges with the inner side with faded jeans distress ink and the outer side with brushed corduroy distress ink.
bells5w
My fir tree got a layer of peeled paint distress paint and forest moss distress ink. For a frosty shining feeling I used some frosted crystal embossing powder. The snow is splattered picket fence distress stain spray. I used a simple hemp rope.
bells6w
I used Tim’s sentiment from his stamp set Stampers Anonymous CMS 063 to remind me to my goal with archival jet black ink. I distressed the edges with walnut stain distress ink and added a hinge clip. Finally I applied the sentiment to burlap.
bells7w
It was time to let it snow on my canvas, so I added some texture paste roughly with a palette knife and while it was wet I poured some clear rock candy distress glitter.
bells8w
Somehow I wanted to remind myself for the old times as well, not too loud of course, so I cut some bells from old music sheet from Tim’s Menagerie paper stash and distressed the edges with walnut stain distress ink.
bells9w
Oh and these bells need to hang on something, so I coloured a piece of crinkle ribbon with worn lipstick distress stain spray, made a bow.
bells10w
I found some place for my old vintage bells at the corner of my resolution canvas.

Thank you Ruth for a wonderful project today and it is a fabulous way to remind us all that we should always create our art and live our lives in the way we want and to not give in when things might get a bit tough. A great new years resolution or promise to ourselves.

Our lovely Nikki was the host of the last challenge and she had the tough choice on deciding who the winner and pinworthies are. We always ask each other for suggestions and guidance, so all the Creative Guides take a hand in the process but we each take our turn in making the final decisions. So today Nikki gives us her final selection.

Winner

A superbly executed, original, altered piece resulting in a fabulous Christmas decoration. As one of my fellow Creative Guides said – she ‘could imagine this in Tim’s house’.

Well I am sure we all are ready to hit this creative journey we are travelling on with both feet running. Let’s have an amazingly creative and exciting time.
