Destination Inspiration - Arriving at Terminal #2

Hi Everyone.....Hope you are all well and are looking forward to your journey. Annie  here as your hostess today and I am taking you on a  long journey so please grab a cuppa as there's lots to see before we reach the end of this post !!!  

The contents of February's Travel Bag are as follows:

Product -Paint

Below is the finished project where you can see lots of crackles and painted layers of deliciousness :-)

I really was not sure where I was going with this project and although I did have some kind of idea...I did go totally off piste from my original thoughts !! 

 Hence I painted 3  #8 Manila Tags  in Black Soot Distress Paint !!! ( always handy for future creations)

 The three Pediments from Tim Holtz Sizzix Die were cut then painted in Black Soot Distress Paint

 Once the paint dried Decoart Crackle medium was applied

 Whilst the crackle medium was drying I applied Finnabair's 3D Matte Gel to an Idea-Ology Glass Bottle, using my fingers.

 When the Crackle medium was almost dry Decoart Chalk Paint was applied and you can see the amazing crackles appearing almost immediately.

 Similarly, Chalk Paint in Rustic was applied to the Pendants die cuts.

 Whilst the tags/pediments were drying I took a piece of cardboard from packaging, tearing it around the edges before placing a small square die on top. You can see below that the die did not cut right through, which was great as it gave me a lovely frame and backdrop for my UTEE heart.

 Some Decoart Vintage Wash Paint was applied to the cardboard, followed by a wash of Lace chalk paint and some splatters of the same paint

 Apologies that the photograph below is a bit fuzzy, but you can just make out that a layer of Tim Holtz Crazing Medium was applied over the 3D Matte Gel as I wanted to see if it would work on the glass.

 Once the crazing medium was dry Lace  Chalk paint was applied then some Decoart antiquing cream was applied using a brush.

 Once the Antiquing cream was dry I wiped with a slightly damp cloth it looked amazing and yes ...there are very subtle cracks...YAY!!!

Some of Tim Holtz Wild Flowers were die cut and coloured with various DI's using finger daubers.

 To go with my framed Heart I decided to create a very wee (small) journal of "Love"

after all it is Valentine's Day on the 14th February !!!  Where is time going.....it will soon be Christmas  again!!!  How many Weeks ???? Okay I'll stop!!

Taking a piece of Kraft card I rubbed in a mix of Glycerin and water  on both sides. This technique creates a faux leather appearance (details  of this technique can be found on You Tube) 

 I then placed the kraft piece in an embossing folder, which I ran through my Big Shot

 Once embossed the journal was inked with Vintage Photo DI and then sprayed with Crafter's Companion Spray & Shine...it really does look amazing :-)

 Taking a piece of card to fit inside my wee journal I folded it like you would a fan, creating mountain and valley folds. Scrap papers were adhered along with some die cut heart and stars/washi tape. I will write a personal message later.

 The edges of the tag were inked with Black Soot DI then the pediments were adhered with foam take to create dimension. UTEE heart taking centre stage within the frame ( I made this when creating my project for the current Melt It challenge, which can be found HERE)

 

Some lace from my stash, a chit chat sticker and a little button with twine now complete the piece, which is now ready for My Valentine x

Destination Inspiration - Terminal 2 with Autumn

Hi there!  Autumn here, arriving at Destination Inspiration with a lovely travel bag of goodies to play with.  Here's what we've packed:

Product: Sprays

Technique: Stamping

Colour: Blue & Brown

Substrate: Wood or Chipboard

I went to my favorite substrate, this altered address book to which I added chipboard pages to make into an art journal.  

I must confess, I was right at home with these colors and products.  Stamping is my favorite thing and I tend to lean towards a blue/green palette - always with the addition of browns.

I removed my pages from the binder gave a rough brushing of gesso.  I stenciled the Small Wildflowers stencil by Darkroom Door onto my pages, with Liquitex light modeling paste.  I love this paste for working with sprays because it soaks up the color and leaves such beautiful contrast.  I was anxious to see how Lindy's Stamp Gang Flat Fabio sprays would work over sponged Distress Oxides, so I sponged on some color roughly.  I sprayed over the blue DOX with Lindy's Danny Zuko's Denim and spritzed with a little water to let the color bleed down the page.  I turned the pages upside down and spritzed the bottom with Lindy's Sandra Dee Sepia and let it bleed into the blue.  

Because my stenciling wasn't dry, I accidentally scraped off a portion of one of the flowers.  I decided to scrape off each other flower to make highlights and really liked this look - happy accidents!  :)

I perched a the house stamp from the Darkroom Door Home Sweet Home set atop the tallest flower.  I added two die cut Prima leaves and a die cut Tim Holtz Wildflower die cut.

I blended the wildflower die cut with the stenciling.  Here you can see where the spray colors meet.

The Tim Holtz paper dolls, layered over Tim Holtz doily die, remind me of my Grandma and her oldest sister.  There were 13 children in the family living on a farm.  When Pearl, the oldest child, went to work at the local mill they were able to buy flour for bread and shoes for the first times in their lives.  When they were much older, they loved fashion, after being raised so poor.  But their hearts were always humble and grounded.

I stamped the Gazette texture stamp in the background in DOX and spritzed it to get that faded look.  I used one of the $1 alphabet stamp sets to add the text.  I really like how the DOX changed the properties of the sprays and I was able to get the beautiful "spritz and fleck" look.

Destination Inspiration : Arriving at Terminal 2

Hello Everyone and Welcome

Amanda here today, ready to greet you at Terminal #2 , the second leg of this months Destination Inspiration. Lets begin by taking a quick look inside the travel bag to remind ourselves of the contents:

Ready to see what I have created? Here it is - a little piece of Art .



When having a good 'sort out' a few months ago now I came across a book I had made back in School (6th form- eek that shows my age). It was great to 'find' it and I put it to one side thinking at some point I would alter the cover. This was that point! However instead of just altering the cover I stripped the book covering off and then broke the book down so I had 2 panels and 4 hand sewn signatures to work with. (my name and form/class scribed in pencil is still visible after all those years- not that old after all! )



I decided to put the signatures to one side and use pages with text on instead. At this stage my thoughts were to have some of the text showing through my painty layers.



With my books sorted I was all set to start creating .I cut the 2 book covers into 4 smaller panels and primed with gesso.



I selected my choice of paints



and applied a layer of the required pale blue to 2 of the panels using my brayer. I then adhered torn pieces of the text book pages to the panels with Tim Holtz collage medium



before continuing to brayer the other colours of paint layer by layer. At some points in the process I brayered over either a wet wipe or a dry kitchen towel to remove some of the paint. I followed no golden rules just went with what felt right at the time and enjoyed the process.



With all the layers of colour the text on the torn pages soon became unnoticeable but though it wasn't what I intended I decided it still looked ok especially when I added a touch of drama with black acrylic paint and some stamping using Jet Black Archival ink and a couple of Seth Apter stamps- Dot Matrix and Word Chain. 



At this point I decided to work on just one of the panels - the one on the left. Here's a closer look



Now for the various elements and embellishments.



The two strips are off cuts from the book covers. They were primed with gesso then the wider one was coloured using my brayer with the pale blue paint before delicately rubbing distress inks over the surface using my finger, whilst the thinner one was covered with Tim Holtz Grit paste and then painted, again using my finger, with the distress paints.

The butterfly is one of the beauties from Tim Holtz Flutter stamp set, heat embossed with Archival Ink and clear embossing powder



and coloured using Distress inks



The circle is created using Seth Apters 'Ring Around' die- just the larger one, die cut from black card stock.



With all my 'pieces' complete it was just a case of 'placing' all the elements onto the panel and adding a few finishing touches - yes you guessed it-hex nuts topped with black gem dots.

Destination Inspiration - Arriving at Terminal #2

Hello Everyone and Happy New Year to you all 

Its Amanda here and I'd like to invite you to travel with me on the 2nd leg of this months Destination Inspiration. Before we set off lets take a quick look inside the travel bag to remind ourselves of the contents

Technique: Wrinkle Free distress
Colour: Hues of Blue
Substrate: Wood .

As always, there's only a few supplies but I'm a big fan of travelling light so lets hop on board and continue the journey....

Here's what I have created

and how I created it...

The Wooden Frame

I primed the wooden frame with a couple of coats of Black Gesso which would serve not only as the preparatory coat on the wood but also as the colour to show through the cracks once they had formed. I then applied crackle paste with a palette knife and left to dry, after which I enhance the cracks using media fluid acrylic paint.

Wrinkle Free distress Technique

I inked up a panel of mixed media card stock using Tim Holtz Wrinkle free distress Technique. I prefer to use mixed media or watercolour cardstock for this technique as I find it can 'take' the water far better than regular card stock.

My ink selection

I used the top three inks for the first stage of the technique

and all the inks for subsequent smooshing, swishing, dipping and dabbing.

I then added more detail with some stamping using a couple of stamps with Archival inks

and stencilling using a layering stencil with both distress ink and Distress Grit paste

finishing the panel with a a few paint splatters and scratches before adhering in the window of the crackled frame .

The Wooden Hearts

I altered two wooden hearts the larger base heart by simply painting with gesso and paints

The smaller heart I covered with scrunched up tissue paper for a first layer of texture

 and then built up the texture further using both Distress Grit paste and Crackle paste allowing to dry between each application. Once dry I then 'worked' the texture with paints.

Here it is mid process....

and here it is finished, mounted in position and embellished with a Distress Grit paste circle and a Tim Holtz Ideology ring fastener.

The finishing touches came in the way of Tim Holtz remnant rubs and a few pieces of ideology to embellish the frame

and a Tim Holtz small talk sticker provided an ideal title for my altered frame
'Listen to your heart it will show you the way '.
