I’m starting out from Terminal 1!

Good morning everyone, it’s Chris from ‘My corner of Heaven’ here with you this morning.

My luggage has been stored in the boot but I have my overnight bag with me filled with lots of goodies that I cannot be without.  My fellow travellers this month have joined with me to come up with our list of ‘desert island must haves’ and they are:
  1. Product - Any ‘Classics’ stamps
  2. Technique - Shabby Chic - CC Vol 1, Page 49
  3. Colour – Antique linen
  4. Substrate – Tag
Using all of the above elements, this is what I’ve come up with…

Here’s my journey to the end destination…

I hope you’ll join in with our travels this month and take a journey of your own….?

Have a great month!

Spring Colours

Welcome everyone to our latest challenge and happy Mayday to you all!
To celebrate Spring (at least here in the Northern Hemisphere), I have chosen Spring Colours for our theme. The theme itself of course is fairly easy, but it is important to remember that this is a Tim Holtz inspired challenge, so when choosing our top 3 entries, we want to see Tim's influence clearly represented in your project. If you describe it in your post even better! You do not have to use Tim products, though his wonderful Distress range of course offers plenty of choice, but we do want to see that your project is inspired by one of his wonderful techniques that he so freely shares.
You can make anything you want, as long as it clearly follows our challenge rules. And if you want to double check, - just click HERE

Like usual, the team have prepared some inspiration pieces for you, so without further ado, here goes:

I am delighted to be challenge host this month and decided to use my favourite Spring Colours,  Yellows, Blues and Greens. Tim has so many wonderful Spring themed stamp sets right now, so I made some of them the focal point of my little canvas. To get more details all you need to do is hop over to my blog

The colours for my Spring palette butterfly were chosen when I was looking out of the window at the blossoms and flowers in the garden. I have used Tim's layered butterfly and cameo frame dies and a mixed media technique using oil pastels and distress stains to create the mottled effects on the butterfly wings.

I think we may see lots of butterflies for Astrid's Spring Colours challenge! I water colored mine using a water brush and Distress Markers trying to make her look like a Monarch butterfly and set her against a crackle paste stenciled brick wall where she is gathering its warmth!  If you would like more details on how I created my canvas, please stop by my blog post here

I know I'm dating myself with this term but couldn't resist using Tim's Bird Crazy Stamp Set for this canvas.  Some of us remember sharing a "party line" with our neighbors.  I hope you enjoy my combination of this colourful theme with party birds on a wire.  For more photos and details please stop by my blog My "Crafty" Life On The Internet.

For me, spring is full of vivid greens, the fresh blue of the sky (so uplifting after the grim greys of winter) and the delicate white of blossom; and I just love the dappled look of sunlight through the new growth of the re-awakening trees.  I've tried to capture some of that on my small canvas using texture paste, die-cuts, lots of Distress Sprays, glossy embossing, as well as inky shading and splatter.  Do come over to Words and Pictures if you'd like to see more.

I always know that Spring has arrived when the beautiful Star Magnolia in our garden bursts open it's buds into the most glorious display of flowers.  I have tried to emulate the flowers using Tim's Tattered Florals die and using the beautiful Spring colours of Cracked Pistachio and Abandoned Coral on my box.  You can see more on my blog here.

Astrid's choice of Spring Colors brings to my mind the wonderful birds that come out to play in my yard, along with the butterflies and lovely flowers! I decided to alter a burlap panel using a variety of products by Tim Holtz. For more details, please stop on over HERE.

What I love about spring here in Shetland are the light nights and the dramatic change in the colours of the sky, sea, sand and hills after the winter gloom. With these colours in mind I decided to alter a Cabinet Card Frame using Distress Inks and Wrinkle Free Distress Techniques and of course flowers made using the Tattered Florals Die. Please hop on over to my blog if you want to know more.

Nikki
Spring colours and a spring theme for me this time using a number of Tim Holtz dies and plenty of inky and painty fun. I set my little piece on some painted corrugated card to create a shabby feel.
Be great to see you over at Addicted to Art where I will share the details today.

Julie
For me Spring Colours are bright colours from Daffodils, Tulip, Crocuses and Berries to name a few. A super challenge which took me out of my comfort zone of a soft muted palette. Love to have you pop over HERE to Juliz Design Post to see my project in detail.

To me the Spring is about the blossoming flowers and soft mellow sunshine that breaks through with its soft warmth and not yet intense heat and colour of the summer. So I created this piece using very unusually for me yellow, plenty of idea-ology and another of those gorgeous photo booth images. All the detail can be found on my blog here.

Using a mixture of techniques (Wrinkle free distress, Spritz and flick distress) as well as products such as Texture paste, Distress Stains etc) these combine with other brands to create this bright and colourful card.  This topic leaves so much to your imagination and creativity that we hope you'll join in this challenge!  More details can be found here. Well, I'm sure you'll agree with me, with 12 creative guides having contributed, there is plenty of inspiration here, and of course we hope you will decide to play along.
Just as a little reminder, our challenge is now a monthly one and one randomly chosen winner will receive a £20 gift voucher from our very generous sponsor, Country View Crafts. We will continue to have our Pinworthy blog badges for the Top 3, who will be chosen by the Creative Guides (DT).

You have until May 31st  at 6:00 pm GMT to link up your creation!

Challenge #20 - Birds of a feather

Good morning everyone and welcome to a new challenge here at  A Vintage Journey!

In the last couple of years we have seen an abundance of paper designs, dies and embossing folders all depicting birds and bird themes. So, in order to give everyone the widest opportunity of joining in our challenge the theme I've chosen for the next two weeks is....

'BIRDS OF A FEATHER'

We'd like to see what you can create. We don't mind whether it's a card, a tag, a scrapbook layout, a journal page, altered art, home decor or anything else as long as (a) it meets our THEME and (b) you follow our RULES.

Our winner receives a £10 shop voucher from our wonderful sponsor, Country View Crafts as well as a blog badge and the opportunity to join us here as a guest for a future month's challenge. We also award 'Pinworthy' badges to 3 runners up.

As usual, our fabulous team of Creative Guides have put together their selection for you to see to get you fired up and raring to go...

Chris

I adore anything to do with birds so I guess there's no surprise in my choosing this theme. I've used several Tim techniques and products on my matching birthday set but I've mixed in some B-Line stamps and Sizzix die cuts too! More details HERE.

What a fun theme from Chris for this fortnight.  My block is jam packed with Tim's goodies and techniques from the cage to the letter press blocks.  I hope you will stop by my blog here to see photos of all four sides.

Chris's challenge was the perfect opportunity for me to make this sweet needle felted owl from a kit I purchased several years ago.  I placed him on a tree branch from my backyard inside a Configuration Box decorated with many of Tim's Idea-ology pieces.
You can see just how I created my woods hollow scene on my blog post here

I just had to use the gorgeous birdcage die and lots of distress crackle paste for my contribution this month. I love a neutral pallet so kept it in blacks, greys and whites. If you would like to see some more details, please hop over to Addicted to Art.

 Jennie
With very little in the way of birdie stash other than those wonderful Wallflower Stack papers I used a tutorial by Aida (one of Tim's Mixed Media Team) as inspiration for my canvas and making my little bird house from the Artful Dwellings Die.  If you want to see the fun I had creating this then hop on over to my blog for more pictures and details (and a link to Aida's tutorial of course!)

With Christmas coming ever closer, I decided to use this challenge theme to create a Christmas gift for a crafty friend. It's not just a card, but a tag and/or  gift card holder. For a step by step and more photos of course, visit my blog.

Julie
I was inspired to use cardboard on this project after Tim used this on his inspirational November tag. I also recently purchased some of the new Distress Spray Stains, so how could I resist having a play with them. If you would like to see how I made my wall hanging please pop over to Juliz Design Post.
I've gone simple for this one... a couple of very wintry tags featuring birds and bare branches.  There are lots of Tim Holtz products involved - Distress Inks, Idea-ology, Layered Stencils, most of the stamps and more - but more than anything else, these pay tribute to the initial inspiration that got me hooked on this whole business - Tim's stamped and inked tags.  Come and see some close-ups at Words and Pictures.

Oh how I love birds and was so thrilled when Chris chose this challenge theme. I have had birds most of my life, so it is always such fun to work these into challenges and DT work. Keeping in true Tim style, I have used his Distress inks, designer paper, stencil and some other fun stuff along with my stamps of choice! For all the details please click HERE.

I've really come back to collage work at the moment and combined it with mixed media and made a wall hanging inspired by Tim’s papers, images and ephemera and the fact that he has a fabulous mixed-media team who create some wonderful pieces to share with us.

Now you've seen our line up it's time for YOU to get busy. Get out your inks, paints, chalks, Gelatos etc and grab your bird dies, stencils, masks, stamps, whatever avian stash you have and conjure up something that sings of our feathered friends. Whatever you create, we want to see Tim's influence clearly identified. Let's see your magic folks!  >:o)

We hope you have lots of fun with this and join in with us, we can't wait to see all your fabulous entries - good luck!

It's tags and winners today!

Good morning everyone and a big welcome to winners' Friday. We have no winner's guest post today so we are having a Creative Guide's 'Tag you like' day instead. Some of our team have put together a tag (on whatever theme they like) especially to show you! But, before we see them, we have the very important task of announcing the winner and Pinworthies from our last challenge, Jenny's 'Just stain it'.

The CGs have pondered and pontificated, oooh'd and aaarh'd and Jenny even cogitated and ruminated!! LOL  After the team's input, Jenny's final decisions are........

Winner of the Country View Crafts' Voucher

"One of the hardest things as a DT member is voting for challenge winners when you know some of those entering. There's always that worry that people might think you are favouring someone for that reason when actually it can be the complete opposite! However, I have no qualms in choosing Mo's picture as the winner of the 'Just Stain It' challenge because it makes full use of a range of techniques for using Distress Stains and looks absolutely incredible."

Congratulations to Mo, Pamelia, Mona and Jackie, all very worthy winners. A big thank you too to all who joined in and entered their beautiful projects, great work everyone!

And now to our tags...

Most definitely influenced by Tim using his techniques, dies and paperie but with the addition of some decayed work too in the flourish. There are more details here if you want them.

Well what can I say, I love blueprints, I love Distress and all of Tim's lovely goodies and here is the result.. a manly thank you created with lots of my favourite things! All of the details can be found here.

A distress stained tag with bleaching through the doily stencil was the start point for this Tim inspired tag. Add some hearts, stars, frameworks and butterflies - all my favourite things. Lots more detail and piccies over at A2A - Addicted to Art.

I started with Tim's bubbles embossing folder and went from there. The seaweed was made using the wave embossing folder and both the seahorse and starfish have been given a dose of crackle paint, I seem to be using it so much at the moment, it gives such great effects.

A triple layered, over the top tag experimenting with bleach stamping. Sometimes I just wished I could do Clean and Simple.... Details can be found on my blog

The busy busy bee seemed an appropriate image for me at the moment... there's so much going on! I didn't get around to making my July Tim tag, but the bee I'd started to play with for it needed a home. You can see the details of where he's living now over at Words and Pictures.

Keeping in with the current challenge theme of Time Flies, I started with the words 'time traveler' and developed my tag from there. I have used fabric from Tim's latest release of Eclectic Elements for my base tag, added some stitching and then built it up from there. Further details can be found on my blog.

I love dragonflies and have just acquired the fabulous Layered Dragonfly die & embossing folder so my tag is inspired by their beautiful colours. To see more details on the techniques used please visit my blog

For my tag I decided to use up some of my gorgeous Tim Paper scraps ( French Industrial ) and some Kraft Glassine from a previous project. I layered two tags ( size 8 & 5 ), however, you cant see that in my photograph, which is a shame. Having recently purchased the new French Flight Alterations Stamps and Dies I just had to play with them too. Happy Friday xx

Tim style and my Tim's August Tag of 2014, but with butterflies. Stamping, texture stenciling and staining is all going on here. For more details, please visit my blog! Enjoy the day!

So there we go Ladies and Gentlemen, your winners and we're at the beginning of week 2 of our challenge!  We'd love to see some more of what you're all up to so get out your time pieces, anything you'd like to do to express the passing of time as long as you can demonstrate a strong influence from Tim.

We will be back on Monday with another special guest and a gorgeous project for you to look at.

Thanks everyone, have a fabulous weekend!
