Hello everyone, Anne here!
Hop aboard, on the first leg of the journey for December, here at Terminal 1, with a brand new line-up of essential items in our travel bags this month!
1. Product - Remnant Rubs
2. Technique - Extreme Masking (Compendium of Curiosities I, page 61)
3. Colour - Festive Berries
4. Substrate - ATC
At first I felt a little challenged by the travel bag contents but once I got started I really enjoyed the process and ended up making several pieces, all ATCs of course, but the technique could easily be applied to larger projects.
I have had a set of Tim's masks in my stash for years and never used them so I got them out along with some Ranger Speciality Stamping artist trading cards and my chosen colours of ink - Festive Berries and Blueprint Sketch.

At first I felt a little challenged by the travel bag contents but once I got started I really enjoyed the process and ended up making several pieces, all ATCs of course, but the technique could easily be applied to larger projects.
The technique can be found on Page 61 of Tim's Compendium of Curiosities I.
This is an interesting technique, it is not one that I have used before.
(Apologies for the photos, it is very miserable and wet here)
I laid down the mask with a sticky note at the bottom to create a grounding for the snowman.
I applied the technique as outlined in Tim's book.
Next I over-stamped using a word stamp from Tim's Merchantile set of stamps.
I chose my Remnant rubs and applied these. The Tim Holtz Rub on tool never lets me down....
To create the scarf and to use the required Festive Berries, I cut a thin length of gauze and soaked it in Festive Berries Distress Spray Stain and dried this with a heat tool.
To attach the scarf I used a large eye needle and poked two holes on either side of the snowman's neck and threaded it through. I think it gives a much more realistic appearance.
For my second attempt, I did the technique and then I used some sticky back canvas to create a scarf, which was stained with Festive Berries Distress Spray Stain. I wasn't so happy with the result on this one...
For my third and final ATC I cut an ice skate from Tim's Movers and Shapers die and applied some re-positionable glue to the back of the skate so that the colour would not seep underneath.
The stamping on the skate was created with a freebie stamp (not sure where it came from). The base colour is Festive Berries. I love the combination of the red, white and blue on this one.
Finally, here are my two favourite ATCs. I am going to punch a little hole in the top corner of each one and used them as gift tags - I might even make some more!
It has been lovely to have you travel along with me here, I hope you will come back next week to see what's on offer in Terminal 2!
Our current challenge, hosted by the lovely Annie, is 'Vintage Christmas' (details HERE) and it would be lovely to see you joining in. Do please check out what my talented teamies have created to inspire you.
Hugs, Anne xx
Both are wonderful. I like the text inside the white snowy, and that blue background just gleams! Then I think I like the skate better (probably due to the fantastic red background). Liked the blue snowflake in the white skate! I have some of these masks, and don't think I've ever used them. Also liked the way you inserted the died scarf around Snowy's neck. The ribbon looked very textured. Perhaps the canvas was too 'thick'?...Great work on both of these - easy to see you had fun. TFS & Hugs
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun masking technique and beautiful ATC's Anne! I love the shapes you used and the stampings inside the shapes - the colors are so vibrant and festive - these will make great gift tags - wonderful job with the contents of your travel bag!! Julia xx

Lovely ATC's Anne, the extreme masking works so well particularly in the festive colour palette. Love the imagery you chose and the stamping inside each works beautifully. Tracy x
ReplyDeleteFabulous ATCs Anne and I agree they would make wonderful Christmas tags.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week.
hugs Brenda xxx
Your ATCs/tags are really fabulous, Annie! I like the scarf which you didn't like as much ~ fits my neatnik-everything-tidy personality, doesn't it? Whereas you are more carefree, wind-blowing-through-your-scarf kind of girl! Hmmm, what do you think? Shall I open a shop to psychoanalysis paper crafting artists? hahahaha! I could have hamster-petting therapy for those of us anal types who need quieting down, especially now that I have so many of the darn things. Might as well put them to work! Oh, sorry, is this a public forum? Well, I'd best be off then ... Hugs, Darnell xxoo
ReplyDeleteabsolutely brilliant work Anne - I have not done this technique either - must look into it - your stamp looks like one the chocolate baroque did as a craft stamper freebie a few years ago - love that stamp!!! I like both scarves - brilliant! Hugs rachel x
ReplyDeleteBeautiful ATCs, Anne! The designs are fantastic with your techniques used.
ReplyDeleteThese are stunning makes Anne! Thanks for sharing terrific how to. I'm not good at masking at all so would run a mile from attempting these - you have achieved superb results. Nicola x
ReplyDeleteI'd forgotten all about those masks! Thanks for the fantastic inspiration!
ReplyDeleteBoth take me back to my Grammie's house Anne - years ago when we used to hang her ornaments. Both of these remind me of some cards she had on her tree. Love them both. But especially like the scarf on the snowman!!! You just made my day with these.... I'm smiling. So fabulously done. Merry Christmas to you sweet gal. Hugs. j.
