Destination Inspiration - Arriving at Terminal 2

Hello fellow travellers, lovely to see you here, - this is Astrid, here to share the second leg of our Destination Inspiration journey for this month.
Just a little reminder about what's in our travel bag during February:

Well, here we go, - the card I created to hopefully give you some inspiration for your own creative journey...

I started with an unusual card shape, it's the width of an A4 piece long ,that's just under 30 cm or about 11/5" and 10 cm /4" high. I scored it 12 cm/ 4.75" from the left.

The rest of the A4 piece of card was perfect to cut my two panels from. 

Let's start with the larger one:

I added some texture paste through the Tim Holtz wood grain stencil and when dry covered it in places with gesso, to act as a kind of resist.

Next I applied Hickory Smoke (I so LOVE that colour) all over the card with my blending tool and then used the spritz and flick technique. By now I thought that my gesso layer was a bit too stark, so I used some white chalk paint (Paper Artsy Snowflake) and a scrunched up bit of kitchen roll to blend it all together a bit, I also added some background stamping, using the same paint and stamps from the Mercantile set.

A few spritzes with the Hickory Smoke Distress spray also helped to bring it all together more.

Now for a focal point:

I had in mind to use this card as a gift for an artist friend and decided to give it an artist journey theme. The word Voyage (from the Classics 1 set) seemed perfect. I first stamped it in white paint again and then in Memento Luxe ink and immediately embossed it with clear powder to make it stick out more.

All that was needed now was a few embellishments to loosely fit my theme

I chose these Ideaology pieces and altered them a bit with white paint, some Hickory Smoke Distress Paint and some Pewter Treasure gold.

And here finally is the first part of my card complete.

As you can probably see, I distressed the edges and inked around them with Ground Espresso Distress Ink.

I quite like how the dabbed on white paint almost looks like sea foam on waves, this was a total lucky coincidence, but of course fits my voyage theme perfectly.

Alright, now to the front panel. This was created in pretty much the same way:

Stamps used here are again from the Classics 1 and also the Classics 14 sets. I stamped the big A first in the white paint and then with the Memento Ink, clear embossed like before; I then overstamped the word artist from the Classics 1 and again clear embossed. Instead of the metal embellishments I just used some strips of Tissue Tape.

I did use the spritz and flick technique on this one also, though perhaps it is hard to see.. By the way Tim describes this technique in detail in the Compendium of Curiosities Volume 2 on page 42.

Destination Inspiration - Arriving at Terminal 1

Hi travelers,  it's S@ndy here as your guide, today we have arrived at Terminal 1.  The first stop on our February journey.  Since this is a new month with a new destination I think it's time to see what we have in our travel bag.  This month we are traveling with:

With Valentin's Day less than a week away - I've used this opportunity to make one last Valentine's Card.

 This time I've made a square card measuring 5.5".  And as much as I try to avoid it, I got out the sewing machine.

This is my first use of the new Candied Apple Distress Ink and I simply love the color.  It is a true red and so perfect for this project.  The top square of the card was cut 5" square and then covered completely with Candied Apple Distress Ink using a blending tool.
 

  Next came the spritz & flick.  I added a little Perfect Pearls in the water to add a little bit of simmer to the surface.

After waiting for the ink and spritz to dry completely, I'm not good at waiting, I stamped the heart from Tim's Valentine Blueprint Set using VersaMark Ink.  Next I added black embossing powder and then heated.

After tearing all the edges, Hickory Smoke Distress Ink was used to edge all around the front side as well as the back - you will see why ink was added to the back later.

 

Next a square of manila cardstock was cut measuring 5.25  and then edged with
Hickory Smoke Distress Ink.

 

 

The top 2 pieces were sewn together using red thread.  The torn edges were then curled up slightly - the back side shows just a little by doing this - that's why the back side of the first panel was inked. Then sewing once again - add the top layers to the card base.  A black and white cardstock was used for the base.

 

 

Two holes were poked in the top of the card to run the twine through, then tying a small bow.

 

 

An arrow from Tim's idea-o-logy line was used along with some craft wire to decorate the bottom of the card.

A Vintage Journey - February Challenge - Industrial

I decided to use an Ikea shadow box to display my industrial butterflies. I have used paint and alcohol inks on the embossed trio and decorated the frame with tissue wrap and translucent paints. There are more details and photographs at Addicted to Art today.

What a great theme for this months challenge.  I used some of my favorite things for this canvas.  I always love using Tim's Gadget Gears & Layering Stencils so I combined them with one of the great images from Graphic 45's Steampunk Debutante Line.

My thoughts are already turning to Spring and Easter and for Tracy's 'Industrial' challenge I have combined lots of things I love - rust, metal/faux metal and altered art with Tim Holtz inspiration and techniques. This was such a fun curio box to put together and I took Tracy's advice and used foil tape to make what are normally natural elements look more industrialised. Destination Inspiration - January Terminal #5

Hello and welcome to our final Destination Inspiration project for January!  Deb here today to share with you a card made with the contents of my travel bag.  If you remember, our carry-ons were packed with the following supplies:

I was a bit intimidated by this list of ingredients, the acrylic substrate had me wondering what to do with it and I discovered that I didn't have any Dusty Concord Distress in my stash!  But a quick shopping trip remedied the Dusty Concord conundrum and a new stamp I had purchased and the upcoming Valentine's Day celebrations helped to guide me as I traveled along on this creative journey.

My 'Jar Full Of Love' Valentine's Day card started out by stamping a mason jar stamp twice onto clear waste packaging using Stazon black ink.

I cut out the jars, cutting one image outside the stamped line and one inside the line, as I planned to layer them one atop the other.  Initially I had left a couple of tabs on one of the stamped images but in the end didn't need them and trimmed them off.

Next, I coloured some manila cardstock with distress inks and stains and some spritz and flick with water.

The purple card was coloured with Dusty Concord and Seedless Preserves and the pink card was coloured with Festive Berries, Picked Raspberries and a touch of Barn Red.  Numerous hearts were then die cut from the cardstock using heart dies by Tim Holtz, Simon Says Stamp and Amy Tangerine.

I wanted the mason jar to have some dimension to it, so I laid the top mason jar image over a bottle and gently heated it with my heat gun so it would soften and conform to the curve of the bottle.  After getting the shape I wanted, I glued layers of the die cut purple and pink hearts on the inside of the curved mason jar.

I added a piece of grey scrapbook paper coloured with Hickory Smoke & Pumice Stone distress ink to the inside of the stamped lid to simulate the zinc lid of a vintage mason jar.  A small hang tag was cut from kraft cardstock with Tim Holtz's Tiny Tabs & Tags die, stamped with the 'XO' and tied onto the jar with a piece of sisal twine.  I then layered the curved acrylic mason jar overtop of the flat stamped jar image and glued the two together with some Glossy Accents.

I still had to bring the Archival inks into play, so used them to create a background piece to mount my mason jar onto.  I coloured a piece of manila cardstock with Dandelion and Tree Branch Archival inks by smooshing the ink pads onto my craft sheet and spritzing them with rubbing alcohol and dragging the card through the puddles.

More Dandelion and Tree Branch were added with a foam applicator to darken the colour and then I dripped some rubbing alcohol onto the card for a bit more interest.  I embossed the card using a polka dot embossing folder by We R Memory Keepers and highlighted the raised embossed areas with Tree Branch Archival ink.  I then added a piece of purple satin ribbon overlaid with an aged piece of lace along the bottom of my panel to give the mason jar a place to sit.

One more layer was needed to complete my card, so I took a piece of kraft cardstock, added strips of Tim Holtz Tissue Tape and stamped multiple background images with Dandelion, Tree Branch and Watering Can Archival inks.  I added some Walnut Stain and Ground Espresso distress inks along with some spritz and flick with water to finish it off.

I cut a piece to fit on my card blank and distressed the edges with a Tonic Distressor tool and some Ground Espresso Distress ink and did the same for the yellow embossed panel.

The sentiment was stamped onto some more kraft cardstock with Jet Black Archival ink and heat embossed with clear embossing powder.

I backed it with a fragment of the yellow embossed card, fussy cut it and then aged it with a bit of Ground Espresso Distress ink.  All the components were then layered onto a kraft card blank and I added a few more Dusty Concord hearts to the inside to complete my Valentine's Day card.
