Challenge 1 - Anything Tim and DT call

Hello Everyone, Brenda here, I am hosting today and am so happy to welcome you to the inaugural challenge for 'A Vintage Journey'. This marks the beginning of a new venture currently with 11 Creative Guides to offer help and support along the way and to provide the creative sustenance we might need. With our mentor, the amazing Tim Holtz, in mind we are tasked to design, devise, invent, imagine and construct to inspire and encourage you to take this path with us. Who knows where it will lead and what we will find on the way, but one thing is for sure everybody's journey will be individual and personal, so I hope you will kit up and share this adventure with us

***

What better way than to begin with an "Anything Tim" challenge.

To focus and think about what you could create I can only suggest - do whatever you like as long as Tim is the strongest theme here. Re-visit one of his techniques or tags, use his stamps and / or products, use one of his videos for inspiration, take the colours/ images/ embellishments that he has used on a project and use them to make something completely different. It really is an anything goes Tim challenge to start us all off. When you write your post please tell us what the link to Tim is and show us your vintage/shabby style. (please see other instructions for taking part in the side-bar).

We are proud to say that Country View Crafts will be our regular sponsor and there will be a £10 voucher for the winning Traveller at the end of the challenge, chosen by the Creative Guides.
Have fun.

Here are our creative makes -

I have had fun with the outside of a large configurations book for our first challenge, not a lot of technique on this one but loads of products. Don't you just love what Tim brings us? This is the outside front cover which tells it's own story of the world being our oyster in our creative ventures and about Tim's travels teaching his techniques and projects, sharing his love for all things vintage.

In starting out on this Vintage Journey, and in conjunction with Tim and alongside the amazing team members, I wanted to create something that would always remind me of taking these first steps and the idea of the configurations book was born, the inside boxes will come alive as the challenges unfold.

This inside page is about the 11 of us preparing to travel together sharing this voyage of discovery and the camaraderie and fun that has already begun. What routes will we take? What diversions will there be?
The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step and we are on our way.

Being a fan of Tim's from his first releases of stamps and dies, the shelves and drawers of my craft room are creaking. What better way to start off our challenges than with this theme? My pastel floral canvas uses Distress Paints, Distress Stains, Distress Glitter, a Tim stamp and an abundance of his dies.

Pure delight to play with Pure Tim Holtz!!  It was Distress that got me into this whole game, so there are Distress Inks, Stains, Paints and Markers all involved on this large canvas... and Tim Holtz stamps, which were my first crafty purchase along with Distress Inks.  I also wanted to play with my bargain Sizzix dies, and this is where I ended up!

Just like Tim, my favorite color for creating vintage pieces is brown, brown and more brown! I also love lots of detail, texture and dimension. This nostalgic canvas is a combination of many of the Tim Holtz things that I love so much; Ranger's Distress Inks and Pastes, Tim's new Burlap Stencil, his Sizzix die cuts and Stamps. Who needs to go to flea markets when you have all of Tim's wonderful Ideaology pieces sized perfectly to work in conjunction with all of his other wonderful products!

I have an all consuming passion for anything Tim Holtz but his Blueprint stamps and his more colourful paints, inks and stains are the ones I seem to reach for first.  This card has inks, stains, Ideaology parts,  Remnant Rubs and Alpha parts and a little decoupage to raise the game wheel up for some dimension.

What a delight to use anything Tim! Many of my favourites are in this piece - wrinkle free distress and spritz and flick, Distress Inks Victorian Velvet, Shaded Lilac, Dusty Concord and Vintage Photo, the fabulous dress form die, and of course my hand made shabby roses using the Tattered Florals die.

When I think "Tim", I inevitably think tags.... I love Tim's tags and I love creating my own inspired by him. So for this first challenge I created not just one but two tags and adhered them together with tissue tape to make them into a tag booklet or card, whatever you want to call it. Four sides to play with all my favourite products. A dream journey for sure!

A vintage journey could only be about "Tim" and all the inspiration he shares all over the world and some really amazing products! This project started with a stencil that I made using Tim's movers and shapers dies and because I could not cover it, an old decorative picture frame was altered using a variety of techniques and mediums!  What a ride it was!

Jenny

I couldn't wait to get my mucky paws on Tim's new stamps and had such fun creating a 'collage on a card', combining as many textures and media as I could possibly manage. For me one of the most exciting things about new releases is finding out how they combine with those old favourites. And it was good to be inspired by the first glimmers of springtime in the garden, including a blackbird busily constructing a nest on the fence.

Trace

I love making tags and for me Tim Holtz goodies and inspiration and tags are a match made in crafty heaven! So what better way to start this vintage journey than indulging my love of the new stencils, lots of yummy distress, one of my favourite dies, some of the fab rub-ons and some cogs...I do love a few cogs....
All these amazing things work so well together to create layers of texture and interest..so much fun!
I am so looking forward to being part of this amazing vintage journey !

Annie

I had such fun with this 12 by 12 page for  Brenda's 'Anything Tim' challenge. You can clearly see the TH vintage style that we know and love.  I used various techniques in this keepsake project, including stencilling, splatting, distressing and ageing and of course I had to use some of  Tim's NEW Ephemera, idea-ology pieces, Tissue Tape and TH Sizzix Dies too. They just happened to drop through my letterbox.....amazing!!!!!   Don't you just adore the Postman :-)
Looking forward to seeing what you come up with in this our first challenge at AVJ x
